Common Yellowjacket Wasp – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Common Yellowjacket Wasp:
Yellowjackets are common, predatory wasps native to North America. They are members of the family Vespidae, which is a group of wasp species numbering around 5,000 different insects. Yellowjackets live in colonies, usually located in trees, bushes or other protected areas, sometimes in manmade structures. These wasps are generally smaller than others, roughly the size of honey bees. They are stinging insects, and unlike bees their stinger does not detach after stinging, so they can inflict multiple stings should they need to. Only the females have a stinger. Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula:
The Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula - also called the the Striped-knee Tarantula - is native to most of western Costa Rica, as well as other parts of Central America, such as Honduras and Nicaragua It is usually black with white stripes near the joint, however a brown color formation also exists for the spider. Zebra tarantulas are deep-burrowing spiders. They live in open semi-arid scrublands, and are often found in large aggregations. The deep burrows keep the temperature below the highest daytime temperatures, and retain humidity. Conversely as temperatures drop at night, the burrows buffer away from the lowest temperatures. Zebra tarantulas can grow to about 5-6 inches (10–13 cm) including the legs. Females can live up to 20 years. Males however, tend to live a much shorter life of up to five years, with approximately a single year of maturity. Diet consists of many insects. In the wild, they will eat a wide variety of insects such as grasshoppers and cockroaches. In captivity they will eat crickets. Desert Blister Beetle – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Desert Blister Beetle:
The Desert Blister Beetle is a species of blister beetle found in southwestern North America. Typically 16 to 33 mm (0.6 to 1.3 in) in length, L. magister has a striking red head, legs and prothorax, with black elytra. They can be found in great numbers in the Mojave and Colorado Deserts in spring, and are often seen in swarms. Females lay eggs in holes in the desert soil. The larvae are insectivorous, mainly attacking bee nests. They consume the immature host along with its provisions, and can often survive on the provisions alone, thus they are not obligatory parasitoids but rather food parasites that are parasitoid, or simply predatory. Adults feed on flowers and leaves of brittlebush. Diana Fritillary Butterflies – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Diana Fritillary Butterflies:
The Diana Fritillary Butterfly is a sexually dimorphic (meaning the male's and female's appearance is different) flying insect native to the fields, meadows, forests and wooded areas of the southern US.) They are one of the larger butterflies in North America with a wingspan of about 3-3 7/8 inches (76-98 millimeters.) While their range covers a very large area, they are usually only found in small pockets with areas that can sustain their population. They are under great threat by habitat loss, especially by strip mining. The Diana Fritillary is notable as, unlike most other butterfly species, scatter their eggs on the ground around the host plant rather than on the plant. The larva hatch and then burrow into the ground, where they spend the winter and emerge in the spring. The Diana Fritillary is the official butterfly of the US state of Arkansas.
