The Emperor Moth is a moth of the family Saturniidae. It occurs throughout the Palearctic region and is the only member of its family to be found in the British Isles, where it is usually called simply the Emperor Moth. The males are somewhat smaller and have different coloration from the females. The male flies rapidly during the day from mid-April to late June looking for the rather sluggish females, which usually only fly at night. The species inhabits a range of habitats but is most often associated with heathland and moorland. The caterpillar is black and orange at first, later becoming green with black rings and yellow and red spots. The European Spiny Lobster is a species of crustacean found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from southern Norway to Morocco and the Azores. Its common names includes Common Spiny Lobster, Mediterranean Lobster and Red Lobster. This large arthropod lives on rocky exposed coasts below the intertidal zone, mainly at depths of 66 to 230 feet (20 to 70 metees). It can grow up to about 24 inches long (60 centimeters) Colors can vary depending on location and diet, but in general the adults are reddish-brown with yellow spots. The antennae are very heavy and spiny. Their flagellum is tapering and is even longer than the body. It is nocturnal and feeds on small worms, crabs or carrion. During most of the daylight hours it spends hiding in rock crevices or caves. The Florida Horse Conch (Latin name Triplofusus giganteus but at one time referred to as Pleuroploca gigantic) is a very large gastropod native to the warm coastal waters of North America from North Carolina south to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. It is the largest gastropods in the Americas, and one of the largest univalves on the planet, with a shell that can reach 24 inches (60 centimeters.) While not a "true" conch, is is like some of the genus of Strombus a predatory sea snail. When the snail is smaller the coloration of the shell is quite vivid and bright, but this coloration tends to fade as the animal ages, with the shell becoming more gray and white. The snail is commonly found in weed and mud flats from the low intertidal to shallow subtidal zones, usually in about 20 feet or water (6 meters.) It is the official shell of the state of Florida in the US.
