The Bornean Orangutan is one of two species of orangutan (the other being the Sumatran.) It is native to the island of Borneo, which is the largest island in Asia and the third largest in the world. The Bornean Orangutan is the third largest of the great apes, behind the two species of gorilla. It is the largest in Asia. Large males can weigh about 165 pounds (75 kg) with the females being smaller. They have very long arms which help them navigate the dense jungles where they live. Currently, this primate can be found in the two Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, and three of the four Indonesian Provinces of Kalimantan. It is highly endangered due to habitat loss and illegal hunting. 100 years ago there were thought to be 315,000 orangutans in the wild. There are now less than 6,600 left in Sumatra, and less than 54,000 in Borneo. Cotton-Top Tamarin – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Cotton-Top Tamarin:
The Cotton-Top Tamarin is a very small monkey found only in a very small area of the tropical rainforests of northern Columbia. It is a member of the family Callitrichidae, which are marmosets and tamarins. They have a very distinctive white crest that extends from the forehead to the shoulders. They weigh only about one pound (.55 kilograms.) They are diurnal and arboreal, rarely coming down from the trees their entire lives. They are omnivorous, feeding on insects as well as vegetable matter, such as various fruits. They are important seed dispensers and many plants count on this to procreate in the rainforest. They are one of the more critically endangered primates in the world, with perhaps as few as only 6,000 animals in the wild. They are highly social animals, living in groups of about 6-13 individuals. Several conservation groups have aggressively attempted to stave off extinction for many years, but the tamarin's future remains uncertain.
