Dusky Dolphin – Signed Fine Art Print

The Dusky Dolphin is a marine mammal found in coastal waters in the Southern Hemisphere. The dolphin's range is patchy, with major populations around South America, southwestern Africa, New Zealand, and various oceanic islands, with some sightings around southern Australia and Tasmania. Its range also includes the Falkland Islands. They are particularly common from Peninsula Valdes to Mar de Plata. It seems to prefer cooler currents and inshore waters, but can also be found offshore. It feeds on a variety of fish and squid species. The Dusky Dolphin is known for its remarkable acrobatics, having a number of aerial behaviors. Compared to other dolphin species, is small to medium in length. There is significant variation in size among the different population areas. The largest dusky dolphins have been encountered off the coast of Peru, where they are up to 6 feet (210 cm) long and weighing 210 pounds (100 kg.) The Dwarf Minke Whale is a marine mammal of the order Cetacea. There is some disagreement if this is indeed a separate species from the Minke Whale (it has not received an official scientific name at this time.) It is the second smallest of the baleen whales, growing to be about 23-35 feet long with the males a being little longer. Adults will generally weigh 3-5 tons. These cetaceans are widely distributed throughout the world's oceans, and can be found from the poles to the tropics. They occasionally will come near coastal areas, but it appears they tend to prefer the open oceans. Due to whaling these large ocean going mammals, were at one times considered endangered, but thanks to the ban on whaling - respected by most countries - their numbers have rebounded and their numbers are stable. The East Pacific Red Octopus is a cephalopod found in the shallow waters of the coastline and beaches of North America (but may also be found in part of the western Pacific ocean.) Octopus rubescens is a smaller species of octopus, growing only to about 9 inches long (22 cm) and weighing about 3.52-5.29 ounces (100-150 grams). Like other octopi, it can change the color and texture of it's skin to either match it's surrounding or express it's feelings when it is threatened. The diet of this octopus is large, and it will eat many different types of animals, such as gastropods, bivalves, crustaceans and scallops, although much of this information comes from observing captive animals. Emperor Angelfish – Signed Fine Art Print

The Emperor Angelfish is a colorful saltwater reef fish. It's a member of the family Pomacanthidae, which contains seven genera and approximately 86 species. These fish are one of the best-known of the saltwater angelfishes. They are medium-sized, reaching a length of about 16 inches (40 cm) when full grown. While the adults are very colorful, the juveniles are strikingly different having a pattern of concentric blue and white lines on a black body. Emperor angelfish are relatively common and, as adults, inquisitive animals which may come quite close to divers. They are found on both coral and rocky reefs from shallow water down to depths of about 50 m. They live in pairs and swim about the reef with graceful unhurried movements. Although generally seen alone, the partner is usually nearby. The European Spiny Lobster is a species of crustacean found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from southern Norway to Morocco and the Azores. Its common names includes Common Spiny Lobster, Mediterranean Lobster and Red Lobster. This large arthropod lives on rocky exposed coasts below the intertidal zone, mainly at depths of 66 to 230 feet (20 to 70 metees). It can grow up to about 24 inches long (60 centimeters) Colors can vary depending on location and diet, but in general the adults are reddish-brown with yellow spots. The antennae are very heavy and spiny. Their flagellum is tapering and is even longer than the body. It is nocturnal and feeds on small worms, crabs or carrion. During most of the daylight hours it spends hiding in rock crevices or caves. The Flag Rockfish is common fish of the Sebastidae family (rockfish, rockcod and thornyheads). It can be found from as far north as the Gulf of Alaska down the Pacific coast of North America and into the Baja Penninsula. Like other similar species, Flag Rockfish can vary widely in markings and coloration, but generally they are dark brown to olive, with a pink and often splashed with a flag or dull yellow. They are considered good to eat and an excellent sportsfish. The Flamboyant Cuttlefish - also called Pfeffer's Flamboyant Cuttlefish - is a species of cephalopod native to the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific off northern Australia. Like other cuttlefish they are smart and formidable predators, feeding on fish, crabs and shrimp. They are closely elated to squid, octopus and the chambered nautilus. The cuttlefish's flat body allows it to live and hover near the ocean bottom where it finds its favorite food. An outer shell once covered the cuttlefish's body but has since evolved into a porous internal shell called a cuttlebone. The cuttlefish varies its buoyancy by varying the amount gas and liquid held in the holes of the shell.
