Western Skinks are native to the western parts of North America. It is one of only five lizards found in Canada. They are very adaptable and can be found in a variety of environments, including pinion-juniper forests, open grassy areas, desert shrub, and rocky canyon rims. These reptiles are fairly secretive and highly agile. They feed on small invertebrates like spiders, sow bugs, grasshoppers and crickets. The Western Fence Lizard is a reptile of genus of Sceloporus or 'spiny lizards'. They grow to about 8.5 inches (21 cm) Most adults develop a distinctive blue belly, although the overall coloration of the lizard can vary, from dark morphs to light, sand and/or gray colored individuals, with yellow, blue and green splotches. The Western Fence Lizard is distributed throughout eastern Oregon, southwest Idaho, all of Nevada, western Utah, Southern California, and northwestern Baja California.
