American Lion – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the American Lion:

The American Lion (also called the Naegele's giant jaguar or American cave lion) is an extinct mammal that was native to the North American continent, going extinct roughly . It is a member of the family Felidae. It was native to northwestern South America during the Pleistocene epoch (0.34 million years ago to 11,000 years ago), existing for approximately 0.33 million years. It has been shown by genetic analysis to be a sister lineage to the Eurasian cave lion (Panthera leo spelaea or P. spelaea). It was one of the largest types of cat ever to have existed, slightly larger than the Early Middle Pleistocene primitive cave lion, P. leo fossilis and about 1/4 larger than the modern African lion The head-body length of the American lion is estimated to have been 5 ft 3 in–8 ft 2 inches (1.6–2.5 meters) and it would have stood 4 feet (1.2 meters) at the shoulder. While large, it was not the largest predator at the time - which was the Short-Faced Bear. It was not as heavy as the Saber-Tooth Cat, it was generally larger. Approximately one hundred specimens of American lions have been recovered from the La Brea Tar Pits, in Los Angeles, so their body structure is well known. Unlike their African relatives, the climate they lived in was colder and therefore like modern mountain lions they took refuge in caves. They are thought to have gone extinct about 10-15,000 years ago. American Paddlefish – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the American Paddlefish:

The American Paddlefish is a large freshwater fish and member of the order Acipenseriformes, which are primitive ray-finned fish. It is also called the Mississippi Paddlefish or Spoonbill. They are found in the slow moving waters of the Mississippi River drainage system. They were once also found in Lake Erie, but it appears they have been extirpated from there. This very large Chondrostean fish can grow to a length of about 7 feet (220 centimeters.) It is one of two living species of paddlefish, although the other - the Chinese Paddlefish - is likely extinct. The American Paddlefish was once common in it's native environment, however due to habit loss and overfishing, the species is now considered vulnerable in most areas. It remains a popular sports fish and in areas where the populations are stable. Arizona Ridge-Nosed Rattlesnake – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Arizona Ridge-Nosed Rattlesnake:

The Arizona Ridge-Nosed Rattlesnake is a venomous reptile native to only a few mountain ranges in Arizona, usually only found above 5000 feet, up to about 8000 in Pine forests and cooler canyons. Generally, the snake doesn't grow larger than a few ounces and longer than 24 inches. The name comes from the snake's distinctive upturned nose. The snake feeds on small lizards, mice, and invertebrates like centipedes. They are very secretive animals, usually only active at dawn and dusk, and are therefore rarely encountered by humans. As these animals are considered threatened by the state of Arizona it is illegal to collect or kill them. They are also the official reptile of the state of Arizona. Curiously, they were the last rattlesnake to be discovered and named by herpetologists in the US. Arrau Turtle – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Arrau River Turtle:

The Arrau River Turtle is one of the largest freshwater turtles on earth. It goes by several names, such as South American river turtle, Giant South American turtle, the Charapa turtle, Tartaruga-da-amazônia, or simply Araú This semi-aquatic reptile is the largest of the side-neck turtles (Pleurodira). The turtle is found in the Amazon River and its tributaries in Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. Adults often reach three feet long (one meter in length.) The turtle is a herbivore, feeding on aquatic plants. Like their relatives the sea turtles, Arrau turtles gather in huge numbers in order to travel to suitable nesting areas. Because of these large nesting areas, and the fact that few of the young survive to adulthood makes the turtle very vulnerable to environmental changes such as pollution and deforestation.
