Black-and-White Colobus Monkey – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Black & White Colobus Monkey:
Black & White Colobus Monkey are Old World monkeys of the genus Colobus, native to Africa. They are closely related to the brown colobus monkeys of genus Piliocolobus. The word "colobus" comes from Greek word for ("docked"), and is so named because in this genus, the thumb is a stump. Colobuses are herbivorous, eating leaves, fruit, flowers, and twigs. Their habitats include primary and secondary forests, riverine forests, and wooded grasslands; they are found more in higher-density logged forests than in other primary forests. Their ruminant-like digestive systems have enabled these leaf-eaters to occupy niches that are inaccessible to other primates. Colobuses live in territorial groups of about nine individuals, based upon a single male with a number of females and their offspring. Newborn colobuses are completely white. Cases of allomothering are documented, which means members of the troop other than the infant's biological mother care for it. Colobuses are important for seed dispersal through their sloppy eating habits, as well as through their digestive systems. They are prey for many forest predators, and are threatened by hunting for the bushmeat trade, logging, and habitat destruction. Black-Backed Sea Krait – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Black-Banded Sea Krait:
The Black-Banded Sea Krait - also called the Chinese Sea Snake or erabu umi hebi - is a member of the Laticauda genus of sea snakes. It is most commonly found in warm waters of the western Pacific Ocean, usually not far from shore in the coral reefs. Which it shaped like many of the terrestrial species of snake, the tail is flatted with extended skin, spread wide like a fin and this is used to aid in swimming. It is a nocturnal snake and rarely seen during the day. It requires oxygen to breathe, so breaks the surface at least once every six hours. It is too slow to catch fish in a straight chase, so it hunts for fish hiding in the coral. The bite is highly venomous and paralyzes the prey. Females lay their eggs on land. Generally, the species is found in Fiji, southern Japan and Singapore. Their venom is ten times stronger than that of a cobra, making them extremely dangerous. But unless this snake is cornered or feels otherwise threatened by humans it will not bite. Black-Chinned Hummingbird – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Black-Chinned Hummingbird:
The Black-Chinned Hummingbird is a small hummingbird - adults only being about 3.25 inches or i8.25 cm long. Adults are metallic green above and white below with green flanks. Their bill is long, straight and very slender. The adult male has a black face and chin, a glossy purple throat band and a dark forked tail. The female has a dark rounded tail with white tips and no throat patch; they are similar to female Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. Their breeding habitat is open semi-arid areas near water in the western United States, northern Mexico and southern British Columbia. The female builds a well-camouflaged nest in a protected location in a shrub or tree using plant fiber, spider webs and lichens. They are migratory and spend most of the winter in Mexico. These birds feed on nectar from flowers using a long extendable tongue or catch insects on the wing. While collecting nectar, they also assist in plant pollination. Because of their small size, they are vulnerable to insect-eating birds and animals. This bird is fairly common in its breeding range. A hybrid between this species and Anna's Hummingbird was called "Trochilus" violajugulum. The Black-chinned Hummingbird is also known to hybridize with Costa's Hummingbird.
