The Pacific Seahorse is a member of the order of Gasterosteiformes, which are a group of ray-finned fishes which includes the sticklebacks and relatives. It is found over a large part of the Pacific Ocean, from the coastal water of southern California, down along to Peru and as far east at the Galapagos Islands. As adults, these fish grow to about 5.1 to 12.2 inches long (13 to 31 centimeters.) Pacific Seahorses feed mostly on bottom-swarming organisms like mysids and other plankton. They do not have teeth or stomachs. Prey is consumed by a rapid snap of the head after sucking it through their long snout.
