Demoiselle Crane – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Demoiselle Crane:
The Demoiselle Crane is a species of bird found in central Eurasia, ranging from the Black Sea to Mongolia and North Eastern China. There is also a small breeding population in Turkey. They are migratory birds, traveling from western Eurasia to spend the winters in Africa, whereas the birds from Asia, Mongolia and China will spend the winter in the Indian subcontinent. The Demoiselle Crane lives in a variety of different environments, including desert areas and numerous types of grasslands (flooded, mountain, temperate and tropical grassland) which are often close to streams or lakes. However, when nesting, they prefer patchy areas of vegetation which is tall enough to conceal them and their nests, yet short enough to allow them look out for predators whilst incubating their eggs. Demoiselle Cranes have to take one of the toughest migrations in the world; In late August through September, they gather in flocks of up to 400 individuals and prepare for their flight to their winter range. During their migratory flight south, Demoiselles fly like all cranes, with their head and neck straight forward and their feet and legs straight behind, reaching altitudes of 16,000-26,000 feet (4,875-7,925 meters). Along their arduous journey they have to cross the Himalayan mountains to get to their over-wintering grounds in India. The bird is symbolically significant in the culture of North India and Pakistan, where it is known as the koonj. The flamingo inhabits shallow saline and alkaline lakes and lagoons. Like all flamingos this bird is very gregarious as it generally flocks in groups of a few hundred to tens of thousands, where it displays ritualized movements of head and wings, accompanied by loud calls. Common or Eurasian Kingfisher – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Common Kingfisher:
The Common or Eurasian Kingfisher is a widely distributed bird native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa, mainly south of 60°N. It is a common breeding species over much of its vast Eurasian range, but in North Africa it is mainly a winter visitor, although it is a scarce breeding resident in coastal Morocco and Tunisia. In temperate regions, this kingfisher inhabits clear, slow-flowing streams and rivers, and lakes with well-vegetated banks. It frequents scrubs and bushes with overhanging branches close to shallow open water in which it hunts. In winter it is more coastal, often feeding in estuaries or harbors and along rocky seashores. Tropical populations are found by slow-flowing rivers, in mangrove creeks and in swamps. Forster’s Tern – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Forster's Tern:
The Forster's Tern is a smaller member of the family Sternidae. It's about 13-14 inches long (33-36 cm) with a wingspan of 25-28 inches (64-70 cm.) It's closely resembled the Common Tern but has a gray center to it's white tail. The Forster's tern feeds by plunge-diving for fish, but will also hawk for insects in its breeding marshes. It usually feeds from saline environments in winter, like most Sterna terns. It normally dives directly, and not from the "stepped-hover" favored by the Arctic tern. The offering of fish by the male to the female is part of the courtship display The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality: • Paper thickness: 10.3 mil • Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²) • Opacity: 94% Buy a Digital Download

Cattle Egret – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Cattle Egret:
The Cattle Egret species of heron (family Ardeidae) found in the tropics, subtropics and warm temperate zones. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Bubulcus. It nests in colonies, usually near bodies of water and often with other wading birds. The nest is a platform of sticks in trees or shrubs. Cattle egrets exploit drier and open habitats more than other heron species. Their feeding habitats include seasonally inundated grasslands, pastures, farmlands, wetlands and rice paddies. They often accompany cattle or other large mammals, catching insect and small vertebrate prey disturbed by these animals. This species maintains a special relationship with cattle, which extends to other large grazing mammals; wider human farming is believed to be a major cause of their suddenly expanded range. The cattle egret removes ticks and flies from cattle and eats them. The California Gull is a medium-sized gull. They are migratory, most moving to the Pacific coast in winter. These birds forage in flight or pick up objects while swimming, walking or wading. They mainly eat insects, fish and eggs. They also scavenge at garbage dumps or docks. They may follow plows in fields for insects stirred up by this activity. At one time it held protected status in California due to species decline, but it has rebounded and now has a stable population. It is the official bird of the state of Utah. Brown Pelican – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Brown Pelican:
The Brown Pelican of the smallest of the eight species of pelican. Despite being a small pelican, it is a large bird, being 42–54 inches in length (106–137 centimeters, weighing between 6.1 to 12 pounds (2.75 to 5.5 kilograms) with a wingspan from 6.0 to 8.2 feet (1.83 to 2.5 meters.) They birds are native to both sides of the North American Continent on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts. They are very gregarious birds, flocking in large numbers. Like all pelicans, these birds use their enormous bills to catch food, diving bombing their prey from several feet above the water, then allowing the water to drain out they swallow whatever fish they've caught. The widespread use of DDT in the 70's dramatically threatened their population, and in some places they were nearly exterminated. With the banning of DDT their numbers have rebounded and now enjoy a stable, healthy population in most of their native range.
