The Whitetailed Jackrabbit - also called the Prairie Hare or simply White Jack - is a hare native to much of North America, mostly from the upper Mid-West to nearly the Pacific Coast. There are two recognized subspecies: subspecies: L. townsendii townsendii and L. townsendii campanius. At one point it was believed that this species had been extirpated, but due to observation and other methods it is clear the species' population is stable and it is not considered endangered or even threatened. Like other species of hare, the White-Tailed Jackrabbit feeds on a variety of plant matter such as grasses and tender shoots of various plants and flowers. They are mostly active in the morning and near dusk. There is also a population that has been introduced into California. The are the only marsupial native to North America and the largest living member of it's genus. Opossums are opportunistic feeds, and will feed on plant matter, carrion and insects. If the animal feels threatened, it will bear it's teeth, hissing and screeching. If it feel sufficiently threatened it will feign death or 'play possum', which is now understood to be an involuntary reaction to fear. The Rocky Mountain Elk is sub-species of elk native to the mountainous regions of Rocky Mountains and other ranges west and adjacent to the Rockies. Elk are large mammals, with adult bulls usually weighing upwards of 700 pounds (225 kilograms) and standing 4.3 feet (1.3 meters) at the shoulders. Cow are about 60% smaller. Like many other species similar to the elk, such as deer, the social structure is based on a dominant male who has a number of females in his harem.
