The Scarlet Tanager is a songbird native to North America. While it is called a tanager the bird is not actually a member of the Thraupidae (tanager) family but the Cardinalidae (cardinal) family. It is found throughout much of the eastern forests of the US and Canada. During migration the bird migrates southwards though Central America into areas of north central South America. While the body of the male is a striking cardinal red with black wings, the female is an olive yellow with darker brownish wings. The bird feeds mostly on insects but will also eat buds from trees and various fruits. The American White Ibis is a species of bird in the ibis family, Threskiornithidae. It is found from North Carolina via the Gulf Coast of the United States south through most of the coastal New World tropics.
