Snow Goose – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Snow Goose:
The Snow Goose - also called the Blue Goose - is a large bird native to the the Western Arctic and North America. They are large birds with an average length of 27.2–32.7 inches (69–83 centimeters) weighing 56.4–116.4 ounces (1600–3300 grams) with a wingspan of 54.3 in (138 centimeters). During the 1900s, the bird was almost extinct, with a population of a mere one or two thousand individuals. But since then their numbers have become very large, estimated to be in the area of 5,000,000 birds, which is a dramatic increase even from just a few decades ago. They're know for their massive migrations, which is from their nesting areas in the arctic to areas south, and during this they can cover some 3,000 miles. These large birds feed almost exclusively on plant materials like seeds, leaves and the roots of aquatic vegetation. The young will occasionally feed on insects. Mottled Duck – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Mottled Duck:
The Mottled Duck is a The adult Mottled Duck is 44–61 cm (17–24 in) long from head to tail. It has a dark body, lighter head and neck, orange legs and dark eyes. Both sexes have a shiny green-blue speculum (wing patch), which is not bordered with white as with the Mallard. Males and females are similar, but the male's bill is bright yellow, whereas the female's is deep to pale orange, occasionally lined with black splotches around the edges and near the base. The plumage is darker than in female Mallards, especially at the tail, and the bill is yellower. In flight, the lack of a white border to the speculum is a key difference. The American Black Duck is darker than most Mottled Ducks, and its wing-patch is more purple than blue. The behavior and voice are the same as the Mallard. Mottled Ducks feed by dabbling in shallow water, and grazing on land. They mainly eat plants, but also some mollusks and aquatic insects. The ducks are fairly common within their restricted range; they are resident all-year round and do not migrate. The breeding habitat is coastal marshes. The nest is built on the ground amongst vegetation, such as bull-rush and marsh grass. Mandarin Duck – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Mandarin Duck:
The Mandarin Duck is a medium-sized, East Asian perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. It is 41–49 cm long with a 65–75 cm wingspan. The adult male is a striking and unmistakable bird. It has a red bill, large white crescent above the eye and reddish face and "whiskers". The breast is purple with two vertical white bars, and the flanks ruddy, with two orange "sails" at the back. The female is similar to female Wood Duck, with a white eye-ring and stripe running back from the eye, but is paler below, has a small white flank stripe, and a pale tip to its bill. The Mandarin ducklings are almost identical in look to Wood ducklings, and appear very similar to Mallard ducklings. The ducklings can be distinguished from Mallard ducklings because the eye-stripe of Mandarin ducklings stops at the eye, while in Mallard ducklings it reaches all the way to the bill. The species was once widespread in eastern Asia, but large-scale exports and the destruction of its forest habitat have reduced populations in eastern Russia and in China to below 1,000 pairs in each country; Japan, however, is thought to still hold some 5,000 pairs.
