American Bittern – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the American Bittern:
The American Bittern is a smaller, stocky brown bird and a member of the Ardeidae family. They inhabit soggy meadows, bogs and swamps where they stalk prey – usually small amphibians, fish and invertebrates – among the cattails and bullrushes. It’s camouflage is superb, and if it believes it’s been spotted, it becomes completely still and blend with it’s surroundings, or it may choose to extend it’s next upwards and sway with the breeze to hide itself. It can be found throughout much of North America, and is a rare visitor to Great Britain and continental Europe. It winters in the southern US, down into Central America.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:
The American Bittern was completed on 4.18.2010. This drawing was tricky because of the unique mottled red/brown patterns in the bittern’s wing and body. These birds are pretty common in some of the areas I hike in the Bay Area. The drawing is based on a photo by Ron Wolf.
