Information about the American Flamingo:
The American (formerly Rosy) Flamingo is a large bird related closely to other flamingo species like the Greater Flamingo and Chilean Flamingo. It is also sometimes called the Caribbean Flamingo. The bird is about 47–55 inches in length (120–140 cm). Males weigh about 6.2 pounds (2.8 kg) and females (4.9 pounds (2.2 kg) It is found in North, Central and South America and remarkably has breeding ground in the Galapagos Islands and nearby coastal islands of Venezuela and Columbia. The American Flamingo is the only flamingo native to North America. It can be found in saline lagoons, mudflats and shallow brackish water and mangrove swamps. They feed on algae and brine shrimp. The algae has an effect on the coloration of the bird, and some born and raised in captivity lack the distinctive pink coloration.

The Desert Blister Beetle is a species of blister beetle found in southwestern North America. Typically 16 to 33 mm (0.6 to 1.3 in) in length, L. magister has a striking red head, legs and prothorax, with black elytra. They can be found in great numbers in the Mojave and Colorado Deserts in spring, and are often seen in swarms. Females lay eggs in holes in the desert soil. The larvae are insectivorous, mainly attacking bee nests.
