Each state in the US has official animals selected to represent them. These animals usually are notable in the state’s natural environment, or for their historical significance, or is important to the commerce of the state. The congressional representatives of each state choose the animal (often suggested by the citizens, sometimes by students and their teachers to help familiarize them with the process in which something becomes law) and an official recognition of the animal follows.
All images are scientifically accurate and expertly drawn by wildlife artist Roger Hall, who has been working in the field for over 20 years for such noted organizations as National Geographic, Scholastic Books, Sunset Magazine and World Wildlife Fund
