The California Kingsnake is a smaller subspecies of the common kingsnake. They can grow up to roughly 4-5 feet with the females larger. The snake is not venomous and poses no threat to humans. They are mostly found in throughout much of southwestern North America especially in California and Arizona. Artist’s notes:
The California Kingsnake was completed on 5.17.09. The original drawing was started in 2007 but was shelved. A recent reptile show in San Francisco inspired me to finish it. But I ended up starting over new and the drawing took almost a week to complete. Snakes can be very difficult to draw with the cross patterning of the scales following the contour of the body.
