Information about the Dyeing Poison Dart Frog:
The Dyeing Poison Dart Frog inhabits small isolated pockets in French Guinea and northeastern Brazil. They are bright blue with two broad yellow stripes on the back. This is a large poison dart frog reaching lengths of about two inches. There is quite a bit of variation in size and color. Dendrobatids are brightly colored, which serves to warn potential predators.

Artist’s notes:
This is another ‘re-do’ of the dart frog variety. This is a favorite of mine because I feel I really captured the quality and texture of the skin. Poison arrow frogs are perhaps my favorite subject, and they were a big reason I traveled to the rainforests of Costa Rica. Both the line art version and the digital tinting were completed in 2008. The drawing is based on a photo by Bill Hughes.
