Information about the Chilean Tree Frog:
The Chilean Tree Frog – also called Sapo Arboreo – is a species of amphibian native to the subantarctic forests, temperate forests, swamps, freshwater marshes of Argentina and Chile. This colorful frog is a member of the family Leptodactylidae. It is noted for it’s very long feet that help it climb through the vegetation of it’s environment. Like many other species of amphibian it is threatened by climate change and habitat loss, though at this time it is not considered endangered.

Artist’s notes:
The Chilean Tree Frog was completed on 3.18.2013. When putting together images as a “tribute” to the nation, I like to research some of the more interesting animals that can be found there. When doing this for the nation of Argentina, I looked up some native frogs, and learned about this amazing amphibian – called either Sapo Arboreo or Chilean Tree Frog, or by it’s scientific name Hylorina sylvatica. I knew I had to draw one! I found a great photo taken by Christian Saavedra, who was kind enough to allow me to use it as reference.
