Golden Takin – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Golden Takin:
The Golden Takin is an endangered goat-antelope native to the Peoples Republic of China & Bhutan. Takins are adapted to staying warm and dry during winters in the Himalayan Mountain regions they inhabit. A thick, secondary coat is grown to keep out the cold. Their large, moose-like snout has large sinus cavities that warm up the air a takin inhales which prevents the loss of body heat by breathing. Although they have no skin glands, their skin secretes an oily substance that provides a water barrier that protects takins from the elements. They are around the same size as a cow and are very aggressive. Its skin is also said to be the source of the legend of the Golden Fleece.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:
The Golden Takin was completed on 9.4.2014. I’m putting together a collage of some of the more endangered wildlife of Asia, specifically China. I was struck by the anatomy of these wonderful ungulates, and knew that they would have to be part of the collage. I found a great reference photo by A.J. Haverkamp (check out his Flickr Photostream) who allowed me to create this drawing based on it. I tend to want to show the goats with young so I dropped in the baby Takin.
