Gray Catbird – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Gray Catbird:
The Gray Catbird – sometimes spelled Grey Catbird – is a medium-sized perching bird native to much of the North American continent, reaching from most of the east coast, past the Rockies with the range ending roughly in the arid deserts of the southwest, northwards into the Pacific Northwest. It is also known as the Slate-Colored Mockingbird. They are called catbirds because of their distinctive cat-like call, however they will also mimic other bird calls like mockingbirds – which are also members of the Mimidae family. They are shy birds, and when singing they will sometimes do so from deep inside the foliage of a tree or bush, unlike other birds that perch in prominent areas when singing.

Artist’s notes:
The Gray Catbird illustration was completed on 10.17.2011. The drawing is intended to be part of a large project “repurposing” a derelict airport in the Boston area, although it is not a 100% go yet, and the plates may change (I completed the drawing regardless, as I like to draw common songbird of North America and had considered drawing a Gray Catbird before. The illustration is based on a photo by Brett Klaproth.
