Pied-Billed Grebe – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Pied-Billed Grebe:
The Pied-Billed Grebe is a widely distributed member of the family Podicipedidae, which are the grebes and has dozens of species in the world. They have many other names, such as American dabchick, dabchick, Carolina grebe, devil-diver, dive-dapper, dipper, hell-diver, pied-billed dabchick, thick-billed grebe, and water witch. They are smaller birds, only about 12-15 inches long (31-38 cm) with a wingspan of 18-24 inches (45-62 cm.) Like other grebes, they do not spend a lot of time flying but spend most of their time on wetlands with emergent vegetation, such as cattails. They primarily feed on fish, amphibians and aquatic invertebrates like crustaceans. Both parents look after the young, carrying them around on their backs until they are old enough to swim by themselves.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Pied-Billed Grebe was completed on 2.5.2014. I had drawn a Pied-Billed Grebe many years ago – in fact it was a commission for the very first book I illustrated: “101 Ways to Help Birds” by Laura Erickson. But this was when I was only drawing in black and white. When I started working in color, I adapted most of the existing illustrations to color. But I knew at some point I wanted to completely revamp this drawing. It took me many years, but I finally completed it today. The drawing is based on this photo and was used with permission.
