Squirrel Treefrog – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Squirrel Treefrog:
The Squirrel Treefrog is a small amphibian native to North America, ranging from Texas to Virginia. The grow only to about 1 to 1.5 inches (22 to 41 mm) long. They are sometimes mistaken for Green Treefrogs . Like other similar species, this frog can alter its color and change patterns. They are mostly nocturnal (although on rainy days they can be active, otherwise they spend the daylight hours hiding under loose bark, on the underside of palm leaves, or in hollow tree holes.) At night the frogs come out to search for prey, such as small insects and other invertebrates. They have a curious call, which you can listen to here . It is usually the first frog call heard after a rainfall.

Artist’s notes:
The Squirrel Treefrog was completed on 3.23.2011. I’m still working my way through all the North American Frogs. I believe I’m about 1/2 there, with about a dozen more tree frogs to go. Frogs are really a lot of fun to draw, and their skin texture and coloration really are conducive to the method of rendering I do (line art illustration with digital tinting.) The drawing is based on a photo by Frank Shufelt.
