Information about the Texel Sheep and lamb:
The Texel Sheep is a breed of domestic sheep originally from the island of Texel in the Netherlands. It is now a popular lean meat sheep in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Uruguay and Europe. The Texel is a heavily muscled sheep. It produces a lean meat carcass and will pass on this quality to crossbred progeny. The exact origin of the breed is unknown although it is thought to be a cross of multiple English breeds. It was slowly bred into a meat breed of outstanding carcass quality. It is now one of the most common meat breeds in the Netherlands, making up seventy percent of the national flock.

Artist’s notes:
The Texel Sheep and lamb was completed on 12.7.2013. I was contacted by a software developer in Georgia, and he requested a series of illustrations for a mobile app he was developing. While I had most of the images he was looking for, there were a few missing images that he commissioned me to create. One of them was a sheep and lamb. I did some researching online and found a great photo by Matthijs van Wageningen who was kind enough to allow to use it as reference to create this drawing.
