$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the White-Tailed Deer:
White-Tailed Deer, also known as the Virginia deer, inhabit most of southern Canada and all of the mainland United States except two or three states in the west. Their range extends all the way down through Central America into South America. While they vary in size depending on the range, generally they are about 6 to 7.75 ft. (1.8 to 2.4 m) and weigh 110 to 300 lbs (50 to 136 kg) These deer are able to survive in a variety of terrestrial habitats. The deer can be recognized by the characteristic white underside to its tail, which it shows as a signal of alarm by raising the tail during escape. Like other deer, they are herbivores feeing on grasses, and other plants, often eating the the most nutritious plant available, often to the chagrin of gardeners in rural areas. The deer is common throughout much of the Americas, and for that reason it is a very popular animals for hunters. It is the official animal of the state of Ohio, Nebraska, Arkansas, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Illinois.

Artist’s notes:
This White-Tailed Deer drawing was based on a photo by my friend Larry Dears. I loved seeing the White-Tails in the forested areas around my native Minnesota. I live in California now and often see mule deer, but their coloring isn’t as vibrant as their eastern relatives.
