This colorful amphibian is also called the Java flying frog or Javan tree frog. It is a species of frog in the family Rhacophoridae. They’re native to the lush, tropical forests of the island of Java in Southeast Asia. They’re known locally as “katak-parasut jawa.”

Artist’s notes:

The Javan Gliding Frog was completed in the summer of 2015. There are few subjects I enjoy to draw more than frogs. They are my totem animal and I always enjoy seeing them in the wild. I’m putting together a collage of animals native to Java and the Javan Gliding Frog will be part of that. The drawing is based on a photo by Irawan Subingar and was used with his permission.
