Linnaeus’s Two-Toed Sloth – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Linnaeus’s Two-Toed Sloth:
The Linnaeus’s Two-Toed Sloth – also called the Southern Two-Toed Sloth or Unau – is a slow moving mammal native to the tropical rainforests of South America. It’s range includes Venezuela, the Guyanas, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil north of the Amazon River. It is a solitary animal, climbing through the canopy feeding on various plant materials. It is sometimes seen swimming across rivers. The two-toed sloths are generally larger than their three-toed sloth relatives, also having larger eyes, longer hair and legs and arms that are more equal in length. Some of the apex predators will hunt these sloths, such as jaguars and ocelots, as well as Crested and Harpy Eagles, who will pluck them from the trees in flight. While their numbers have declined due to poaching and habitat loss they are not considered endangered.

Artist’s notes:
The Linnaeus’s Two-Toed Sloth was completed on 5.4.2013. These animals are so unreal. I’ve seen them in the wild and they really are like nothing else on the planet. I had already drawn a Three-Toed Sloth, so when putting together a collection of animals from Guyana I decided to add this two-toed sloth. I liked the coloration on this one, although they do also have brownish-tan coloration. The drawing is based on a photo by Ellen van Yperen.
