Information about the Mangrove Snake:
The Mangrove Snake – also called the Gold-Ringed Cat Snake – is a species of rear-fanged colubrid. It is one of the biggest of the cat snake species, averaging 6–8 feet (1.8-2.4 m) in length. This snake is native to south-east Asia, from India through to Indonesia and the Philippines. As the name suggests, it is found in mangroves and lowland rainforests near water. Being arboreal (tree dwellers) they spend their days in the branches, coming down at night to hunt, usually looking for small mammals, other reptiles and birds. They are excellent swimmers and are often seen moving though watery areas. It is considered somewhat venomous, but moderate envenomations resulting in intense swelling have been reported, though there has never been a confirmed fatality.

Artist’s notes:
The Mangrove Snake was completed on 9.24.2013. This – for the time being – will be my final venomous snake for a bit. I struggled somewhat to put together seven species of snakes found in that continent that seemed typical of what your general snake fancier might think of when he or she thought of the subject. The Mangrove Snake is something of an exception, as it’s not as dangerous as the others I’ve selected for the collage. UPDATE: Just learned: this snake is not native to South America, therefore I have to find another snake to add to the collage.

The Olive Ridley Sea Turtle - also called the Pacific Ridley Sea Turtle - is considered the most abundant sea turtle on the planet. These reptiles get their name from the coloring of their heart-shaped shell, which starts out gray but becomes olive green later in life.
