$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Marbled Newt:
The Marbled Newt is a species of newt native to areas of southwestern Europe, specifically Spain, Portugal and France. They grow to be about 5-6.5 inches long (13-17 cm) Adult females have an orange stripe running down their backs whereas the males have a large crest. Scientific studies have shown that the Marbled newt use the stars in the night sky to guide them towards their breeding ponds. They are sometimes kept as pets and do well in captivity. They are not endangered, but due to habitat loss and climate change their numbers have dropped in the last few decades.

Artist’s notes:
The Marbled Newt was completed on 1.20.2015. This is the second to last of the species of newts I plan to illustrate for a collage. I did some research and looking at the many different types of newts I could choose from, I knew I had to include this wonderful amphibian. The drawing is based on the talented Portuguese wildlife photographer Armando Caldas and was used with his permission.
