Information about the Minneapolis City Hall:
The Minneapolis City Hall – also called the Minneapolis Courthouse – was designed in 1888 by the architectural firm of Long & Keys. Construction on the building went on until 1909 and the final cost was in the area of $3.5 million dollars, considerably more expensive than the original $1.5 million that was budgeted for the project. It replaced an earlier building that served as the city hall, but that was too small to fit the ever expanding city’s needs. The design is based on the Allegheny County Courthouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The building’s style is known as “Richardsonian Romanesque” At the time, it was the tallest building in the city, and remained so until 1929 when the Foshay Tower was built. The exterior of the building is very rough looking, and the blocks used are made from Ortonville Granite and weigh in the area of 20 tons.

Artist’s notes:
The drawing of the Minneapolis City Hall was completed late summer in 1995. By this time, I had already illustrated many of the notable buildings and landmarks, and moved on to drawing some of the less prominent ones, including buildings that held a special interest for me. This is one of those buildings. At the time, the area in front of the courthouse was under construction, and I stuck into the site with a camera and sketchbook to capture images I knew might not be available to me later on down the line. The drawing took about 2-3 weeks to complete. The clock tower shows a time of 10:21 – which represents October 21, the artist’s birthday.

Lake Harriet Band Shelter – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Lake Harriet Band Shelter:
The current incarnation of the Lake Harriet Bandshell was constructed in 1986. It stands on the site of previous buildings, some of which were destroyed by fire. The building was designed by the local architectural firm of Bentz Thompson Rietow. The architect was Milo Thompson. The building itself has a 30 foot by 25 foot glass in the back of the building that faces out towards the lake, so as you look into from the front, you can see the lake and any activity on it. The bandshell has a seating capacity of about 900. The bandshell underwent a major refurbishing in 2004. The Park Board itself did not have the funds available, so local businessman Mark McGowan organized groups of volunteers, funded by private donations, to repaint the Bandshell, refectory and sailing pavilion. Working in tandem with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, the exterior of the building was painted light brown (it had been blue) and some upgrades to the sound system were done, along with the large glass plate being replaced with a thicker, stronger glass. During the summer months concerts are held in the building with a wide variety of music being represented. Landmark Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Landmark Center:
The Landmark Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota originally served as a post office, custom house and courthouse for the state. The building was designed by Willoughby J. Edbrooke, who was a great admirer of the work of H. H. Richardson (the style is sometimes referred to as "Richardsonian Romanesque." The building was completed in 1902. In the 1970s, under a wave of pressure to eliminate all the older buildings in the Twin Cites, the Landmark Center was slated for destruction. However, a group was organized of concerned citizens and the building was saved. in 1978 the Landmark Center underwent a large renovation, and then was officially recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. Today the building houses offices, research centers, a gift shop, a cafe and the Schubert Club Museum. Milwaukee Depot, Minnesota – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Milwaukee Depot:
The Milwaukee Depot - also called the Old Milwaukee Road Depot - was a depot in downtown Minneapolis that brought trains into the city for seven decades. The structure was built in 1899, and the last train left in 1971. It was a travel and business hub, built in the Renaissance Revival Style. The interior was beautiful, with white marble floors, a ceiling of paneled oak and brown and cream colored bricks made up the walls. As Minneapolis grew, the depot was very active with dozens of trains coming and going daily. By 1971, however, the train traffic slowed to a stop and all service was cut. The building sat unused for many years, until 1998 when the property was developed and a large complex constructed, incorporating much of the original parts of the building. In the complex is an indoor water park, a center for the history of the building, hotels, parking lot and a seasonal ice skating rink.The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
