Information about the Nile Monitor:
The Nile Monitor is a large lizard of the monitor family. They can grow to about nine feet long, and are very powerful and muscular, with sharp claws for digging, climbing, tearing apart prey of defending themselves. They’re found throughout much of central Africa in a wide variety of habitats usually near permanent bodies of water. There might be small isolated populations in Missouri and Florida. These large reptiles are occasionally kept as pets, although their size and needs make them suitable only for experienced handlers.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:
The Nile Crocodile was completed on 12.29.2010. Crocs can be tricky subjects, considering the anatomy of most reptiles are very conducive to the style I draw (save for snakes!) Getting the patchwork like scales that follow the contours of the body to ‘set’ right is a challenge. But once the foundation is in place, laying the tinting over the ink is a lot of fun. The drawing is based on a photo by Tim Randall.
