Alligator Snapping Turtle – Signed Fine Art Print
Fine art illustration of an Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys temminckii.)
Information about the Alligator Snapping Turtle:
The Alligator Snapping Turtle is one of the largest freshwater turtles on earth and the largest in North America. It can be found in the Mississippi River and it's tributaries. They can be found in murky, backwater swamps and slow moving waters. Inside the turtle's mouth is has a built-in lure, which is a fleshy appendage it dangles while it sits motionless to attract fish. When a fish comes close enough it snaps its mouth shut with tremendous speed and force. Because of this formidable mouth which has been known to break fingers and cause other injuries they should be handled with extreme care or avoided all together if possible. Allosaurus – Signed Fine Art Print
Fine art illustration of an Allosaurs (Allosaurus fragilis.)
Information about the Allosaurus:
The Allosaurus is an extinct dinosaur and member of the family Allosauridae. It was one of the first theropod dinosaurs to be discovered. Much of the fossil record comes from North American specimens, but some have also been found in Portugal. Allosaurus lived in the Mesozoic era, likely in the late Jurassic period, between about 154 and 115 million years ago. It was a very large predatory animal, reaching a height of about 28 feet (8.5 meters) and there is some fragmentary evidence that it could have been even larger - perhaps up to 40 feet (12 meters) The Allosaurus had an impressive set of large, sharp teeth. Like much dinosaur behavior, it is up to some speculation and conjecture as to how these large meat-eating animals hunted, but some paleontologists believe they might have hunted in packs, running down and attacking larger prey that they couldn't have brought down alone. Information about the Alpine Chamois:
The Alpine Chamois is a member of the Bovidae family. It is native to the mountainous regions in Europe, including the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, the European Alps, the Tatra Mountains, the Balkans, parts of Turkey, and the Caucasus. It had also been successfully introduced into New Zealand's south island. They live at moderately high altitudes and are adapted to living in precipitous, rugged, rocky terrain. These ungulates are found at elevations of at least 11,800 ft (3,600 m). In Europe, Chamois spend their summers above the treeline in meadows. A fully grown chamois reaches a height of about 28–31 inches (70–80 cm) and measures 42–54 in (107–137 cm) long. Males are slightly heavier and larger than the females (66–130 lb) (30–60 kg). Information about the Alpine Newt:
Alpine newts are native to much of the mountainous regions of Central and Southern Europe (they have been introduced into other areas such as the UK.) The scientific or binominal name is Ichthyosaura alpestris, which has been changed from the previous name of Triturus alpestris and Mesotriton alpestris. The females are larger, growing to be about 4.7 inches (12cm) and the males are about 3.5 inches (9 cm.) Alpine newts typically inhabit forests with good access to water in hilly to mountainous regions. They are mostly absent in forest-poor areas. They populate well in thick deciduous forests, as well as parkland and natural gardens. Outside the spawning season, Alpine newts live terrestrially. Amazon River Dolphin – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Amazon River Dolphin:
The Amazon River Dolphin is is a freshwater mammal native to the rivers and flooded rainforests of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. Amazon River Dolphins grow to be about 8.5 to 9.5 feet long (2.5 to 3 meters) and weigh about 200 pounds. Males are normally larger than females. Unlike other dolphins, the Inia geoffrensis does not have a dorsal fin, but rather a uneven shaped hump on its back. During the dry season, these dolphins live in the larger rivers in the rainforest, but during the rainy season the dolphins head into the flooded plains swimming among the submerged trees hunting for prey. These freshwater mammals have about 100 peg-like teeth for catching food. The river dolphin's diet consists of small crustaceans like crabs, small turtles, catfish, piranhas, and other fish.
