Anna’s Hummingbird is a medium sized hummingbird. it is native to the western part of North America from British Columbia to California and east to Arizona. These hummingbirds feed on nectar from flowers using a long extendable tongue. They also can catch insects in flight. Like bees and other hummingbirds they pollinate plants while collecting a flower’s nectar. They are extremely territorial. This bird was named after Anna Massena, Duchess of Rivoli.

Artist’s notes:
The Anna’s Hummingbird was line art version was completed in 2005 as part of a series of three hummingbirds, along with the Ruby-Throated and Broad-Tailed Hummingbird. The digital tinting was added in 2007, and then touched up again sometime in 2010. UPDATE: The entire drawing was re-created from scratch – this time the drawing was based upon a photo by Edward Lai.
