Information about the Common Dolphinfish or Mahi-Mahi:
The Common Dolphinfish or Mahi-Mahi is a surface-dwelling ray-finned fish found in off-shore temperate, tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. Also known widely as dorado, it is one of two members of the Coryphaenidae family, the other being the pompano dolphinfish. Mahi-mahi can live up to 5 years, although they seldom exceed four. Catches average 15 to 29 pound (7 to 13 kilograms). Mahi-mahi are very popular sport fish and for commercial uses. Sport fishermen seek them due to their beauty, size, food quality, and healthy population. Mahi-mahi is popular in many restaurants.

Artist’s notes:
The Common Dolphinfish or Mahi-Mahi was completed on 7.16.2014. There’s few animals I enjoy drawing more than the ocean going creatures. These amazing looking fish had captured my attention some time ago, and when I decided to make some sort of collage using this species as part of it. The talented underwater photographer Terry Goss, who has an amazing Photostream on Flickr, was kind enough to allow me to use his excellent photo as reference.
