Information about the Asian Forest Scorpion:
The Asian Forest Scorpion is a member of the genus Heterometrus, which include about 50 species of scorpion native to the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia. In this family are some of the largest scorpions in the world. Heterometrus longimanus, like most scorpions, is a nocturnal species which spends much of it’s day hidden away in a burrow, or in a tree cavity or other forest litter. It emerges at night seeking prey, which is can subdue with it’s large claws and venom tipped tail. The sting of this scorpion, while painful, is not usually fatal. They are sometimes kept as pets.

Artist’s notes:
The Asian Forest Scorpion was completed on 11.15.2014. This is the seventh scorpion I’ve drawn, and will be the final species to go into a collage I will be creating of some of the world’s scorpions. I love to drawing these wonderful arachnids. Their anatomy lends itself well to the medium. I will likely not draw any more for awhile, but if there’s a specific species you’d like to see illustrated please send me an email.
