Black Skimmer – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Black Skimmer:
The Black Skimmer is a member of the family Rynchopidae. They are a tern-like seabird native to North, South and Central America. There are 3 species of skimmer. The Black Skimmer is about 16-20 inches long (40-50 cm) with a wingspan of 42-50 inches (107-127 cm.) As their name implies, this seabird flies just a few inches above the water with it’s large beak – specially adapted for this use – skims along the top of the water looking for small fish, insects and other invertebrates. When they are not feeding, the Black Skimmer will stand near the water’s edge in groups, often in the company of other species of birds.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:
The Black Skimmer was completed on 2.8.2015. I’m putting together a collage of birds native to the Mid-Atlantic Coastline. As these birds are frequently seen there, I wanted to include them. These are amusing birds to watch flying just above the water with their beaks dipping into the water looking for food. The drawing is based on a photo by the talented wildlife photographer Christopher Rolph and was used with permission.
