$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly:
The Colorado Hairstreak is a small flying insect native to the dry, scrubby regions – usually between altitudes of 6,500 to 7,500 feet – of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is often found in areas with Gambel Oak, on which the species is dependent on, because the caterpillars of the species feed on plant, and the adults lay their eggs on it. The adults feed on tree sap and aphid honeydew (which is a secretion that is produced by aphids.) Largely due to the heavy lobbying from 4th graders from Wheeling Elementary School in Aurora, Colorado this butterfly was designated the official state insect of Colorado in 1996.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly was completed on 7.6.2012. As I work my way through the state animals, I learn more and more about species of animals I never knew existed. The Colorado Hairstreak is one such species, which is the state butterfly of Colorado. It is a wonderful butterfly with lovely colors. The drawing is based on a photo by Ken Kertell.
