The Common or European Cuttlefish is one of the largest of the cuttlefish. They inhabit the North, Baltic and Mediterranean seas. The cuttlefish lives on sandy and muddy seabeds. They generally feed on crustaceans, but will also eat fish, other cephalopods and even algae. Cuttlefish are very intelligent animals.

Fine art illustration of a Common Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.

Artist’s notes:

This was the first drawing that I was basically able to complete (the black and white line art version) in one day. The inking was completed sometime in 2004 and the color added a few years later in 2008. The blue colored background was added a few after that.
