Florida Panther – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Florida Panther:
Florida panthers are a subspecies of cougar native to the forests and swamps of southern Florida. These large cars are officially listed as an endangered species by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The population was estimated to be 30 to 50 animals in 1993, and current numbers are believed to be only about 100, and most of these animals living exclusively in state and nationals parks. While their numbers are still small, thanks to very aggressive conservation efforts the numbers are on the rise. Radio collar monitoring and camera traps are being used to help save this endangered cat. The biggest threat to the panther is habitat loss due to development as well as interbreeding with the more common Mountain Lion.

Artist’s notes:
The Florida Panther was completed on 3.31.2012. I had been meaning to draw one of these lovely cats for some time now. I came across an excellent reference photo on Flickr by EarthLink Photography . It is of a panther that lived in the Palm Beach Zoo. Unfortunately, doing a little research I found the panther – a male called Colin – had only recently died earlier in the month. He was 17 years old and due to a tumor in his leg was unable to walk, so he was euthanized.
