Information about the Nassau Grouper:
The Nassau Grouper is a large fish native to the warm, tropical waters of the western Atlantic Ocean from Bermuda, Florida and the Bahamas. It is mostly a solitary fish, active mostly during the daylight hours. It is usually found in around coral reefs, where it feeds on smaller fish, and crustaceans like lobsters, crabs and shrimp. Due to overfishing the species has been in steep decline over the last few decades so that the fish has been declared endangered by several conservation groups.

Artist’s notes:
The Nassau Grouper was completed on 5.23.2014. I love these large fish, with their myriad of patterns and coloration. I’ve been drawing them on occasion over the last few years, but only recently considered drawing more of them, perhaps making a collage of some of the more interesting and beautiful species. If you have a suggestion for what species I should draw next please send me an email.
