Artist’s notes:
The Northern Flicker was completed on 1.07.11. From the northern forests of the Mid-West to the coastal redwoods of California, I’ve lived my whole lives seeing these birds. I thought about drawing one in flight (which I may do with another similar species later) but when I saw an image of the Flicker looking smartly over it’s shoulder like this, I figured it would make an excellent illustration. The drawing is based on a photo by Ron Wolf.
