Purple Martin – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Purple Martin:
The Purple Martin is is the largest swallow in North America. The average length is about 8 inches long (20 centimeters) Adult males are entirely black with glossy steel blue and purple sheen, where as adult females are dark on top with some steel blue sheen and have lighter areas on their underparts. These birds are highly skilled flyers, using great speed and agility in flight. When feeding, Purple Martins are aerial insectivores, which means they will pluck insects out of the air in mid-flight. They usually fly very high, and feed upon the insects in that area of the sky. In the winter, they make the long migration to the Amazon basin, returning to North America in the springtime to breed.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Purple Martin illustration was completed on 6.13.2012. At one point it time, it seemed absurd that I would be able to draw more than just a small percentage of North America’s Passerine birds, as there are several hundred. I still doubt that I’ll be able to complete more than 10-20% of them over the course of the next several years. But at this point I’m just a few away from completing drawings of 100 of them. The drawing is based on a photo by Betty Rizzotti
