Information about the Speckled Racer Snake:

The Speckled Racer Snake is a species of nonvenomous colubrid snake native to the Americas. The specific name, margaritiferus, means “pearl-bearing” in Latin, referring to the pearl-like spots on the dorsal scales. It’s found from the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States south to Colombia. As it is the northernmost ranging species of Drymobius, it is sometimes referred to as the northern speckled racer. They are typically found in densely vegetated habitats near permanent water sources. They will consume a wide variety of prey, but primarily feed on amphibians such as frogs and toads.

The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:

The Speckled Racer Snake was completed on 12.10.2014. There was a time that a drawing like this would have taken me about 3-5 days to complete at least. But thanks to some time saving techniques I’ve developed over the years I was able to complete this drawing in only about 1.5 days. The illustration is based on a photo by Jake Scott (a very talented herper and photographer) and was used with his permission.
