Information about the Eastern Imperial Eagle:

The Eastern Imperial Eagle is a bird of prey can be found in open country near small woods from Southeastern Europe to Western and Central Asia, including parts of Arabia and North Africa. It is a very large bird with a length of 28–35 inches (72–90 cm), weighing about 5.4–10.0 pounds (2.45–4.55 kilograms). It’s wingspan is an impressive 5.9–7.1 feet (1.8–2.16 m.) They are very effective hunters, and will take prey such as hares, hamsters, pheasants as well as other birds and reptiles. The Imperial Eagle has been extirpated from nearly all of it’s former range in Europe. The numbers of this eagle have dropped precipitously in recent years, and it’s estimated that there may be as few as 500 pairs in the wild today.

Description

Fine art illustration of an Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.

Artist’s notes:

The Eastern Imperial Eagle was completed on 10.6.2014. When I’m developing a collage – usually a group of animals from the same genus or family or region of the world – I research to find what might be considered iconic for of that group or geographical area. I had started in on the Arabian Peninsula a few months ago. Since then that group of animals has changed, including the creation and addition of this wonderful and threatened bird of prey, that I only learned about doing research of the fauna there. I hope I made a good choice.
