Information about the Ornate Chorus Frog:

The Ornate Chorus Frog is a small (1-1 7/16″ or 2.5-3.7 cm) arboreal amphibian native to the southern coastal plains, cypress ponds, flooded meadows and flatwood ditches of North Carolina to eastern Louisiana and south throughout much of northern Florida. They are members of the Family Hylidae, which encompasses a wide-ranging species of frogs, including many other treefrogs. These small, colorful amphibians feed primarily on small insects and other invertebrates. They are mostly nocturnal and are rarely seen during the day. Their shrill mating call is reminiscent of an insect.

The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Description

Fine art illustration of an Ornate Chorus Frog (Pseudacris ornata.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.

Artist’s notes:

The Ornate Chorus Frog was completed on 10.15.2011. I am getting close – perhaps about 2/3rd the way – of all North American treefrog species. Each of these charming little amphibians have been fun to draw. They might not be as flashy or colorful as the frogs in the tropical rainforest, but they have their own charming color palettes (usually greens, yellows and browns) that make them every bit as gorgeous. The drawing is based on a photo by the talented herpetologist and photographer Pierson Hill.
