The Sri Lankan Leopard is a large, predatory feline native to the various natural environment of the island of Sri Lanka in Southeast Asia. They can be found in dry, evergreen monsoon forest, arid scrub jungle, low and upper highland forest, rainforest, and wet zone intermediate forests. Like other large cat in this area of the world, they are highly endangered due to poaching, human encroachment and a diminishing gene pool. It is a very rare animal in captivity, with there being only 75 individuals in various zoos around the world.

Artist’s notes:
The Sri Lankan Leopard was completed on 6.5.2014. There is something so gorgeous and mythical about the leopards. There are about 9 sub-species and I’ve now drawn 4 of them. I believe that I will try and draw all of them. Hopefully I will be able to do this before these highly endangered felines themselves go extinct. The drawing is based on a photo by A.J. Haverkamp and was used with permission.
