Tomato Frog – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Tomato Frog:
Tomato frogs come from Madagascar. The name is based on the fact that this amphibian is bright red and roundish. If threatened a Tomato frog will puff up it's body making it appear larger than it really is. The frog can also secrete a thick substance through it's skin that will cause any predator's mouth and eyes to be irritated. The Tomato Frog is a very popular animal to keep for a pet. Due to destruction of it's native habitat and the overall decline of amphibian species worldwide it is considered endangered. King Baboon Tarantula – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the King Baboon Tarantula:
The King Baboon Tarantula native to the scrublands and grasslands of East Africa. It grows to about 9 inches (20 cm) in leg span. As a burrowing species, the back legs are very thick and used for digging burrows. It is popular among tarantula collectors but is highly aggressive and not suitable for beginners. They also have very strong venom (although none of the tarantulas is known to have a bite that is deadly to humans); a bite from a juvinile of this species caused sharp pain and strong hallucinations and the place of the bite remained itchy for five days. It puts silk at the burrows entrance to detect vibrations. These spiders hunt beetles, cockroaches, and other spiders, although they can kill mice, lizards, snakes, and birds. Like all old world spiders, the king baboon tarantula has no urticating hairs, and can be very defensive. When provoked, they rear up, and strike down repeatedly. This is one of only a few Theraphosid spiders that can stridulate as a major defense mechanism. The Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula - also called the the Striped-knee Tarantula - is native to most of western Costa Rica, as well as other parts of Central America, such as Honduras and Nicaragua It is usually black with white stripes near the joint, however a brown color formation also exists for the spider. Males however, tend to live a much shorter life of up to five years, with approximately a single year of maturity. Diet consists of many insects. While the venom in this arachnid is highly toxic to the scorpion's prey, it is not life-threatening to humans and no fatalities have ever been recorded. Carolina Wolf Spider – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Carolina Wolf Spider:
The Carolina Wolf Spider - also called the Giant Carolina Wolf Spider - is the largest spider in North America. It can grow to a length of 3-4 inches long (22-35 mm) They range over much of southern Canada and the US. Like other wolf spiders, H. carolinensis has eight eyes that are arranged in rows of three. The middle row has two very large and prominent eyes, the bottom row has four smaller eyes and the top has two medium sized eyes. Their eyes are good for night vision as when they are hunting. They depend mostly on camouflage for protection, so they are usually very drab, colored with gray and brown. Although they look like the dangerous Brown Recluse Spider, Wolf Spiders are mostly harmless to humans, but they can deliver a nasty bite if provoked. This arachnid was named the official spider of the state of South Carolina in 2000.
