Artist’s notes:
The Common Raven was commissioned by a private client and completed on 11/24/2008. It was a straightforward subject – being a simple black bird. But it turns out ravens are not exactly black. Their feathers are a dark iridescent blue-purple color which, when the light hits them the right way, reflects and shines as the illustration shows.
