$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Congo Peafowl:
The Congo Peafowl – also called the Mbulu by the Congolese – is a species of peafowl native to the Central Congolian lowland forests. Adults grow to be about 25–28 inches long (64–70 cm). They feed on insects and fruits. Due to ongoing habitat loss, small population size, and hunting pressure in some areas, the Congo peafowl is evaluated as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of threatened species. As of 2013 their population in the wild was estimated to be between 2,500 and 9,000 individual adults. It is the national bird of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa.

Artist’s notes:
The Congo Peafowl was completed on 11.26.2015. This is the last of the extant species of peafowl I had to draw. While it’s not as remarkabe as the related species of Green and Indian peafowl, it’s still a beautiful bird. And as I read more it seems that it’s also a fairly unknown one. I was lucky enough to find a great reference photo by Paul Moines who was kind enough to allow me to use it to create this illustration.
