Black and Yellow Garden Spider – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Info about the Black and Yellow Garden Spider:
The Black and Yellow Garden Spider – also known as the Writing Spider or Corn Spider – is an arachnid common to much of North and Central America. These large arthropods build webs in forests near sunny fields so they are protected from the wind. The web can be quite large – up to 2 feet in diameter. The males are slightly smaller than the females. In a daily ritual, the Black and Yellow Garden Spider consumes the interior part of the web and then rebuilds at the start of each day with new silk.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:
The Black and Yellow Garden Spider was completed on 10/28/2010. I first came across these bizarre and massive spiders in Costa Rica I believe, and then later in Florida. I was pretty amazed at the size of their webs, along with what appeared to be a community of smaller spiders living in the same web, that either the Garden Spider didn’t notice or didn’t care about. It made for a great subject in the days before Halloween of ’10.
