Information about the Giant Leopard Moth:
The Giant Leopard Moth is a member of the family family Arctiidae. It’s found in much of the Southern and Eastern United States, from New England to Mexico. The moth has a wingspan of 3 inches (about 8 cm). The abdomen is dark blue with orange markings, the male has a narrow yellow line on the sides. Its legs have black and white bands. Adult moths are strictly nocturnal and do not generally fly before nightfall. The caterpillar is of the “Woolly Bear” kind, with a thick coat of black bristles (setae) and red or orange colored bands between its segments which become conspicuous when the caterpillar rolls into a ball for defense.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Giant Leopard Moth was completed on 1.31.2014. When researching species of moth to illustrate I learned of this amazing species. It is so striking with the black/blue spots on a white body. I struggled with the exact pose, as part of me wanted to show the lovely orange colored abdomen, and in some cases the iridescent blue is hard to see. In the end I made a composite of various reference photos I had found.
